The eyes of agriculture in Israel and world markets
Goals of the Unit
Initiating and carrying out economic studies, through which economic-agricultural policy will be decided, and the trends and processes influencing the economics of Israeli agriculture will be understood.
The unit will develop financial models which will aid in quantitatively estimating the effects of various policy alternatives on the agriculture industries and advise the Ministry administration regarding various topics of economic policy, such as risk management, pricing policy, taxation and others.
The Unit will be responsible for economic aspects of promoting different Ministry reforms in the various agricultural industries, help and direct research in the field of agricultural economics through joint work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s chief scientist, be involved with the various aspects of price control policy, studying export markets, and planning the Ministry’s economic policy.
Unit Targets
- Plotting Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development strategies based on planning and research activities
- Estimating the effect of internal and external changes on Israeli agriculture
- Consolidation and suggestions for optimal ways to cope with expected changes, based on research, models, and focused economic and strategic analysis
- Carrying out economic analysis supporting making decisions
The Production and Economics (Local Market) Unit has a system which gathers data on the target markets for fresh agricultural produce and the producers who are competing with Israeli produce in those markets.
The Unit’s market research provides up-to-date and easily available data, information, and knowledge about the export markets for fresh field crops and about the producers and produce from countries competing with Israeli exports, in the same markets. Including constant tracking of the export markets and competing produce growing countries.
The information and knowledge serve the decision-makers in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the advisory systems, agricultural research, growers, exporters, input providers, and growers’ organizations.
The Unit operates a marketing Information Center. The Information Center’s operations include: collecting, organizing, processing and distributing marketing information which is important for agricultural export of fresh field crops.
The Unit has a section for publications and information distribution through its journal (Beshukei Hayitzu – In the Export Markets), periodic publications, and a range of research works.
